~ Archetypes ~ The Court Jester ~

~ Archetypes ~ Court Jester ~

Last weekend I attended an evening with Brian Dale, an Archetypes enthusiast and expert author of Archetypes: Why you do what you do.

It was fantastic! I wish I could say more, but there isn't much to say, I will be doing his workshop in a few months and can't wait. I wanted to share some of his awesome work with you, and upon hearing of the sad death of Robin Williams, thought that the Court Jester would be a great place to start.

The Court Jester plays the fool for laughs, but is smarter than you think. They command attention with their cheeky sarcasm or dry wit, and gage people's reactions - picking up intuitively on where they stand and how far the Jester can go.

Sadly the jokes and façade hide insecurities - and the Jester can make fun of themselves at their own expense - often exposing a vulnerability they cannot retract.

They are the 'clever entertainer, an informed detective and perfectly concealed spy'... and if they leave you wondering whether they are joking or not - their work is done.

And they love figuring out what makes people tick - and pushing the envelope as only they can - being the perfect spy for the King and Queen with their excellent judge of character.

Some qualities associated with the Court Jester are insight, wisdom, integrity, exposing the truth, courage, heckler, delusional, humour in poor taste, low self esteem, misunderstood, deceptive, foolish, influential, light hearted.

RIP Robin Williams, from one Court Jester to another

If you want to find out more about Brian Dale, he has a website -
